Football season is the most magical season of the year. All of a sudden your Monday nights are filled with football, and that’s just a wonderful fact of life. Also, it’s your last chance to beat your opponent in fantasy football for the week.

What channel is Monday Night Football on?

Every Monday Night Football game will air on ESPN.

Whatever streaming or cable package you choose, make sure ESPN is included—not that you didn’t already know it’s an essential channel for every sports fan.

Which option is best for you?

Time for a quick NFL streaming personality quiz to make this decision easier for you. Which team approach do you most identify with?

  • Dallas Cowboys. You’re working with a flexible budget, and you just want to get as much firepower as possible.
  • Pittsburgh Steelers. You want to be competitive, but you don’t mind saving a few bucks either.
  • Buffalo Bills. You are a little removed from the bigger city, and you like the smaller-market vibe.
  • Cleveland Browns. A very small payroll with high ambitions.

Here are the answers to your personality quiz:

Best ways to stream Monday Night Football

#1 Sling TV: Watch Monday Night Football for the cheapest possible price

Best Choice

31+ Channels
Free Trial

What we like: $25 for ESPN is a steal

Drawbacks: Weak local coverage

Who it’s perfect for: Fans looking for the budget buy

There’s a reason we love value menus so much at fast food restaurants, and Sling TV is the value menu of streaming Monday Night football. Sling hooks you up with some of the cheapest channel packages out there.

You can watch Monday Night Football for free with a 7-day Sling trial.

$25 a month for ESPN and Monday Night Football

The secret behind Sling TV’s cheap prices is smaller channel packages. With the Sling Orange package, you get ESPN and over 25 other channels. Sure, that isn’t as many channels as you’d get with PlayStation Vue, but there’s a reason why Sling TV is half the price.

Now is a good time to hop on the Sling TV bandwagon because this is the first year Monday Night Football is accessible via your mobile devices.

Pair your Sling subscription with an antenna

There’s just one major setback with Sling TV—the Orange subscription doesn’t come with any local channels or other NFL-related networks. You basically get Monday Night Football and not much else. Forget about watching Thursday and Sunday football with such weak local channel coverage.

This is where the antenna comes in. By combining your Sling TV subscription with an antenna, you can stream Monday Night Football and get access to other NFL games on CBS, FOX, and NBC.

We recommend going with the Mohu Leaf 50 on Amazon. It has a strong signal and happens to be eco friendly, which is cool. Check out our antenna guide for more recommendations.

Sling TV device compatibility

You can stream Monday Night football on pretty much any streaming device out there, including Apple TV, Chromecast, and Roku.

#2 PlayStation Vue: Monday Night Football, NFL Network, and NFL Red Zone

Great Choice

Core Package

50+ Channels
Free Trial

What we like: Touchdowns on NFL Red Zone

Drawbacks: A little more expensive

Who it’s perfect for: Fans looking for a more complete NFL package

For the fan willing to spend a little for even more NFL coverage, PlayStation Vue has you covered. You can try it out and watch Monday Night football for free with a 5-day free trial.

Don’t miss a single touchdown

PlayStation Vue has four different base channel packages for you to choose from, but for the diehard NFL fan, we recommend the Core package with over 55 channels for $44.99 a month.

Unlike the cheapest package (Access), Core gets you the NFL Network, which shows Thursday Night Football. If you’re watching Monday Night Football, chances are you’ll want Thursday Night as well.

The second thing you want to do with your Core subscription is add the Sports Pack for $10 a month. Granted, this is totally optional, but we think it’s worth it for NFL Red Zone. You get to watch every touchdown or major defensive stop.

Unlimited cloud DVR

Another big thing PlayStation Vue has going for it? It has the ability to record everything you want. Let’s be honest—networks stuff a ton of commercials into every NFL game, and it’s sort of obnoxious at this point. With cloud DVR, you can fast-forward through all those commercial breaks and just focus on the action.

Check out our PlayStation Vue review for more details on cloud DVR, interface, and everything else.

PlayStation Vue device compatibility

Even though it sounds like PlayStation Vue works only on PlayStation, that isn’t the case. You can stream with it on Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, as well as PlayStation consoles.

#3 Hulu with Live TV: Watch Monday Night Football and binge-watch shows later

Also Great

Limited Commercials

57+ Channels
Free Trial

What we like: Hulu’s entire streaming library

Drawbacks: No NFL Network or NFL Red Zone

Who it’s perfect for: Sports fans who love the occasional binge-watch

Hulu with Live TV is a great fit for fans looking for a reasonably priced, but robust streaming package. It may not be as cheap as Sling TV, but it comes with lots of bang for your buck.

Monday Night Football with lots of local network coverage

Hulu with Live TV offers only one channel package, which makes things easier for us—it comes with ESPN, and it also comes with really strong local network coverage.

In other words, you have a really good chance of picking up your local networks directly through Hulu. Trust us: few things are worse than sitting down to watch the New England Patriots take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on a Sunday afternoon only to be greeted with a blackout screen. We’ve been there.

Along with ESPN, your Hulu subscription comes with over 55 other channels to choose from. Sadly, you won’t find any NFL Network or NFL Red Zone here, but if you’re a college football fan, the channel package does include ESPN Goal Line.

Binge-watching and cloud DVR

First of all, you’ll be happy to know your Hulu comes with 50 hours of cloud DVR storage. You can upgrade to 200 hours of cloud DVR storage for an additional $14.99 a month on top of everything else, but if you stay on the ball and delete games after after you watch them, 50 hours should do you just fine.

You know how Hulu has tons of shows that you can stream whenever you want? Well, there’s more good news. You get access to all of that with your live account. It’s nice knowing you can recover from a bad loss with some Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Seinfeld, or The Simpsons.

Hulu with Live TV device compatibility

You can stream Monday Night Football with Hulu on pretty much any streaming device, like Apple TV, Chromecast, and Roku.

Best satellite provider for Monday Night Football

DIRECTV: Monday Night Football free of an internet connection

What we like: No need for a fast internet connection

Drawbacks: More expensive, and you’re locked into a contract

Who it’s perfect for: Fans living in rural areas

We don’t always recommend satellite and cable TV options, but when we do, it’s often because we want to watch football.

$45 a month for your first year

Out of all the DIRECTV packages, we recommend going with the Choice™ package that gets you local channels, ESPN, and the NFL Network for $45 a month (for your first year). It has over 185 channels, which for some might be too many channels, but channel flippers will love it.

So what’s the biggest perk of signing up for DIRECTV? You get NFL SUNDAY TICKET included with the first year of your subscription. That means you can catch all the Sunday games out of your market.

Now let’s get into the catches

The first thing you should know about signing up for DIRECTV is that you lock yourself into a two-year contract. The contract you’re signing up for costs $45 a month (with the paperless billing and autopay discounts). Nobody likes being tied down, but if you don’t have a strong internet connection, you might not have a choice for streaming Monday Night Football.

Before you get too excited about NFL SUNDAY TICKET, just know that you won’t get it included after your first year. You’ll have to pony up $59.99 a month on top of your cable bill to keep enjoying the service.

Secondly, remember what we said about your monthly subscription price costing $45 a month? Unfortunately, your subscription price will more than double to $105 a month for the second year of your contract. As far as catches go, that’s a really big one. But it may still be worth the price for fans with weak internet speeds.

Speaking of internet, you can always try to improve your connection before the season starts. Just enter your ZIP code here, and learn about what internet options you have in your area.

Wildcard—NFL Game Pass: Watch every game after the fact

What we like: Access to every out-of-market game in the NFL

Drawbacks: Waiting for streaming access

Who it’s perfect for: Fans of the league as a whole

If you’re willing to watch games after the fact, NFL Game Pass might be a perfect fit for you. You can try out NFL Game Pass with a 7-day trial.

What am I getting with the NFL Game Pass?

The NFL Game Pass was made with NFL fanatics in mind. The idea is that you can watch every out-of-market NFL game after they air. You’ve got two options for your NFL Game Pass subscription:

  • One-time payment of $99.99 for the whole season
  • Four installments of $29.99 each month of the season

You end up paying an extra $20 with the installment plan, so if you have the cash, it would be worth ponying up for the one-time payment.

Your subscription gets you replays of all 256 games, live out-of-market preseason games, and archives of NFL films and old games. As long as you’re willing to watch games after they air, you’ll get a lot of football to enjoy.

Monday Night Football heavily delayed on NFL Game Pass

The biggest issue with streaming Monday Night Football on NFL Game Pass is the delayed access.

Last year, Monday Night Football access was delayed as long as two days before it was available on NFL Game Pass. It’s clear the service is more optimized for non-Monday football games, so keep that in mind if you’re thinking of rolling with NFL Game Pass.

NFL Game Pass device compatibility

NFL Game Pass works with pretty much any streaming device you can think of, including Apple TV, Chromecast, and Roku.
