The NLDS features two top-tier matchups (Rockies vs Brewers and Dodgers vs Braves) that will determine which teams advance to the NLCS. It’s the start of the road to the World Series, and it’s what October baseball is all about. If you’re a fan of all the excitement and drama sports can create, you don’t want to miss a moment of the NLDS!
This year, the entire NLDS airs on FS1 and MLB Network, a cable station. Thankfully, there are numerous options to legally watch the NLDS online on your computer, phone, and tablet or directly on your TV — all without cable TV. I’ve put together a summary of all of your best options this October. Read on and take a look at your options for NLDS live stream action.
Watch the NLDS Online with Sling TV
During the National League Divisional Series, Sling TV will be a great resource to watch the action. Sling TV is a subscription streaming service that helps cable cutters keep up with their favorite live TV broadcasts. It live streams dozens of popular pay TV channels including TBS, TNT, ESPN, and AMC using your high-speed internet connection — all at a fraction of the price of cable and with no contract required. You can read my Sling TV review here.
The series will be broadcast on FS1 and MLB Network, which means the Sling Blue package will let you watch the NLDS online either on your computer, tablet, phone, or on your TV with a connected device (Roku, Apple TV, Chromecast, Fire TV). Sling TV’s basic Blue package, with over 30 cable channels including TBS andFS1, is just $25 per month and there’s no contract. Pay month-to-month like you would with Netflix or any other streaming service.
During the NLDS, you could try Sling TV’s free 7-day trial and watch about half the games without any cost to you. Of course, you would miss some of the NLDS action and all of the NLCS if you only had it for seven days, so you might want to take advantage of this great limited-time deal Sling TV has right now. If you prepay for three months of your service, Sling TV gives you 50% off a Roku 3 player or a free Roku 2. Both devices would have been paid for at the end of the three months and if you buy now, you can watch all of the National League Playoffs action on your TV this October with your new streaming device. Can You Watch the NLDS with MLB’s Postseason.TV?
Unfortunately, you can’t even watch the NLDS online with the MLB’s own streaming service. Unless you have cable that is and can authenticate the service. So it’s useless for cord cutters looking to stream the NLDS.
Watch Replays of All NLDS Games On MLB.TV
MLB.TV Premium is still available to any baseball fan, but requires a cable login for playoffs. In the playoffs, the games will be blacked out due to certain regulations, but there will be on-demand replays readily available for subscribers. Each game will have its full replay posted 90 minutes after completion and can be watched at any time by users. On top of the on-demand games, you gain access to MLB’s At Bat app and plenty of highlights and analysis. If you are someone who cannot watch the games live or prefers to have all of the action at hand the days after a game, it’s a great option, especially when you factor in the low price.
Watch the NLDS Online with PlayStationVue
PlayStation Vue is a live streaming service recently introduced by Sony. Like Sling TV, it lets you watch several popular cable TV channels without the hassles or expense of cable TV. FS1 and MLB Network is included in the Core package, which will be broadcasting the majority of the NLDS. The Core package begins at $49.99, which is clearly more expensive than Sling TV or other options.
Vue is a solid live streaming service, and its channel packages are robust. However, if you’re just looking to keep up with MLB playoffs action, it is the more expensive option of the bunch, and it isn’t available on Apple TV. It’s also important to note that PlayStation Vue does have some mobile streaming restrictions that can block you from watching an NLDS live stream if you’re outside of your home network.
