This year will mark the sixth year of Major League Baseball’s Wild Card play-in game. On Tuesday, October 2, the NL Wild Card game will take place on ESPN. For the Rockies and the Cubs, it all comes down to this. Win or go home. It doesn’t get any more exciting than this!

With the Colorado Rockies and Chicago Cubs battling it out in a win-or-go home game, this is sure to be an excellent matchup. And cable cutters definitely don’t want to miss out on the action. Good news, even though the NL Wild Card game airs on ESPN, there are legal ways you can watch it online without cable Below I’ve put together a guide for how to watch the NL Wild Card game online so you don’t miss a pitch. Read on to help you decide which option will be the best for you!

Watch the NL Wild Card Game Online on Connected Devices with Sling TV

Best Choice
$25 - $40
26 - 58

Sling TV, a streaming service launched earlier this year by Dish Network, will be a solid option to watch the NL Wild Card game online and other MLB playoff games this October. The subscription service allows you to live stream over 20 popular TV channels like TBS, TNT, ESPN, and AMC directly to your TV (using a streaming player), phone, tablet, or computer. This year, the NL Wild Card game will be broadcasted on ESPN, which means you can live stream the game using Sling TV. The service starts at $25 per month for the Orange package and does not require any contracts. Read my Sling TV review for full details on the service.

With Sling TV, you can actually watch the NL Wild Card game for free this year. Sling TV is currently offering a 7-day free trial, which means if you sign up prior to the game, you can watch the action while on your free trial.

If you plan on following the MLB playoffs all the way through, you should capitalize on Sling TV’s limited-time offer. Right now, if you prepay for three months of your subscription, you will receive either a free Roku 2 or 50% off a Roku 3 player. It’s a great deal considering either device will have paid for itself and you’ll have gotten three months of enjoying Sling TV. Both Rokus let you watch Sling TV (and over 2,000 other streaming apps, like Netflix and Hulu) right on your TV, meaning you could be watching the NL Wild Card game online directly on the big screen in the living room. PlayStation Vue Offers Option to Watch NL Wild Card Game Live Stream

$44.99 - $79.99
47 - 72

PlayStation Vue is an alternative live streaming service that’s pretty much like Sling TV. As with Sling TV, Vue offers packages of top pay TV channels for cheaper than cable TV and with no contract to sign. Vue is streaming on a few different devices, including PlayStation 3 and 4 consoles, Roku, Chromecast, and Fire TV (no Apple TV at this time).

However, before you try Vue to watch the NL Wild Card Game live stream, you should know a couple things. Vue does start at a higher price point than Sling TV — $44.99. Also worth noting, there are some important restrictions on live streaming via your mobile devices if you’re away from your home network, making it difficult to watch on the go.

Use MLB’s Postseason.TV To Not Miss Any Of The Playoff Action

This year, MLB has made multiple options available to watch the MLB playoffs online. For the playoffs, MLB will be supplementing its normal offerings with the option to subscribe to Postseason.TV. The service will offer live coverage of NL games through the 2015 playoffs. The live streams will be offered in alternate angle and with alternate audio, allowing you to choose from 10 camera angles based on your preference. You can also watch four of these angles at one time.

Postseason.TV can be accessed directly from your computer or mobile device and also includes the option to stream batting practice prior to the game. Unlike other services Postseason.TV will not be subject to blackout restrictions of the playoff games. You will be able to watch each game regardless of your location and will be one of the top options to watch the NL Wild Card game online without a cable subscription. The service will cost you $4.99 for the postseason.

MLB.TV’s Discounted Services Is A Great Option To Watch Replays of All Playoff Games

Another option for keeping up with the MLB playoff action will be to subscribe to MLB.TV’s premium service. Due to certain exclusivities, the playoff games will be blacked out on MLB.TV, unless you have a cable subscription that includes the channel the game is being broadcast on. While this will remove the opportunity to watch live MLB playoff games, MLB.TV is producing an archived, on-demand version of each game on the service. Around 90 minutes after each game is over, the replay of the game will be posted and can be viewed at your leisure. If you don’t mind watching the games on a delay or if you can’t catch the live broadcast anyway, this is a great option to watch the NL Wild Card game online.

To make the option even more viable, MLB announced the new price for its premium option for the rest of the season is just $9.99.
