Jul 19 - 22, 2018
Angus, Scotland

One of the four majors in professional golf, The Open Championship is one of the best tournaments of the year. It is the oldest major and has been played for well over one hundred years. This year, like so many others the tournament will be played on an incredibly historic and beautiful course at Royal Troon. One of the exciting things about the tournament is the golfers are not just playing against the course, but the elements as well. In order to catch The Open Championship live stream, check out our guide below.

The Open Championship kicks off on July 19th and if you are in the U.S., you will be waking up around 1:30 a.m. ET to watch the beginning of each round on the Golf Channel. It is certainly worth it though and if you can watch The Open Championship live stream, you don’t even need to leave your bed.

That’s why you need to make sure you can watch The Open Championship online if you don’t have a cable package. Thankfully, there are multiple options to watch and we highlight them below.

Watch The Open Championship Live Stream with Sling TV

Best Choice
$25 - $40
26 - 58

Subscription streaming service Sling TV is one of the most popular cable alternatives on the market and will be an ideal resource to stream The Open Championship. It came out in 2015 and has grown rapidly in its offerings and popularity. You basically pay a monthly fee and get to live stream tons of popular cable channels on your laptop, phone, tablet, or even TV with devices like Roku or Chromecast.

The basic package will run you $25 per month and includes more than 25 cable channels to live stream. It does not give you access to The Open Championship streaming, but you can still watch ESPN, ESPN2, TBS, TNT, AMC, A&E, and several more channels. The way to watch the tournament online is by signing up for the Sports Extra add-on package. It only costs $5 more per month and you get access to all the Golf Channel coverage of The Open Championship streaming and also the SEC Network, ESPNEWS, ESPNU, and several other sports channels.

Rounds 1 and 2 will be hosted by Golf Channel, which is available via the Sports Extra package. Rounds 3 and 4 will be hosted by NBC, which is available via the Sling Blue package, but only in select markets, unfortunately. Check out our NBC streaming guide to find the full list of markets that NBC is available in.

You can even use Sling TV (review) to watch The Open Championship online free since it currently offers a free 7-day trial. There are also a couple other offers ongoing from Sling TV including a deal to get 30% off with T-Mobile. All you need to do is be a T-Mobile subscriber and you pay $14 per month for the basic package of Sling TV.

Also, if you sign up for three months of Sling TV you also get great deals and discounts on Roku players or Apple TV. Right now, those three months can get you a free Roku player, which is a $70 value. Or, you can also get $60 off an Apple TV right now.

Use PlayStation Vue to Watch the Open Championship Online

$44.99 - $79.99
47 - 72

PlayStation Vue is structured similarly to Sling TV and is another way to watch The Open Championship live stream. Instead of needing an add-on package, you can actually get streaming access to the Golf Channel through the basic subscription of PlayStation Vue. You’ll also get NBC, which covers the 3rd and 4th rounds, but NBC is on-demand only and not available for live viewing. But, it still costs more than the setup for Sling TV at a starting price of $39.99 per month.

That price gets you a ton of live streaming channels, over 50 in total. They include ESPN, ESPN2, FX, FS1, FS2, CNBC, TNT, TBS, Comedy Central, and many more. What PlayStation Vue adds in its channel list it takes away in terms of streaming capabilities. It is compatible with several options, which you can learn about in our PlayStation Vue review, but you likely cannot get The Open Championship streaming outside your home. There are some serious limitations, but it’s still a really solid option to watch The Open Championship online without cable.
