Live a Little
This season of Hard Knocks focuses on the struggling Cleveland Browns. They’re the only football team that managed to lose every single game last season. They even hosted a parade to celebrate their “perfect” 0–16 season.
Luckily, things have changed since that monstrous season. The Browns landed the first pick in the draft and snatched up Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield.
It’s too early to tell anything concrete, but Mark Wahlberg said Mayfield is the next Tom Brady. Tantalizing, right? Time to stream Hard Knocks and get a closer look at how this struggling team manages to rebuild itself.
How to watch Hard Knocks online
Here are your best options for streaming Hard Knocks on HBO.
#1 HBO NOW: Watch Hard Knocks for the cheapest price
What we like about it: Cheapest way to watch Hard Knocks
Drawbacks: No other channels
Who it’s perfect for: Fans not looking for a channel package
If you’re just looking for a way to stream Hard Knocks and you’re not looking for a channel package to go with it, HBO NOW is the way to go. You can watch Hard Knocks for free with an HBO NOW free trial.
Watch Hard Knocks and all the other HBO shows
Don’t really care about getting a full channel package? This is the option for you. You don’t need to pay extra for anything else you don’t want—HBO NOW just comes with Hard Knocks and everything else in the HBO library. You can go from Baker Mayfield to Daenerys Targaryen for $15 per month.
It’s nice knowing you can cancel your HBO NOW subscription whenever you want—like once this Hard Knocks season ends, for example. You can always just renew each year when Hard Knocks airs. We won’t judge you.
Is HBO NOW worth the money?
Sure, you can get HBO for cheaper with DIRECTV NOW, but you also have to pay more for channels you might not want. That’s like paying $72 million for Brock Osweiler (sorry, Houston fans) when Nick Foles can win you the Superbowl for less than half that.
If you’re locked into a cable contract, or you’re happy with your streaming service, then HBO NOW is definitely the best way to watch Hard Knocks online.

HBO NOW device compatibility
You can stream Hard Knocks with most of the streaming device heavy hitters like Apple TV, Chromecast, and Roku.
#2 DIRECTV NOW: HBO add-on for only $5/mo.
What we like about it: Cheapest HBO add-on package around
Drawbacks: Paying for a full DIRECTV NOW channel package as well
Who it’s perfect for: Fans looking to cut the cord and get HBO for cheap
Out of all the streaming services in the world, none offer HBO as cheap as DIRECTV NOW. You can try out DIRECTV NOW and watch Hard Knocks with a 7-day trial.
Hard Knocks and a lot more for $40/mo.
DIRECTV NOW’s HBO add-on is an extra $5 per month in addition to whatever channel package you pick. So of course we recommend going with the cheapest option. The Live a Little package comes with over 60 channels, including channels you’ll need to watch the NFL, like ESPN, NBC, and FOX for $35 a month.
Especially when you consider HBO add-ons usually cost between $10 and $15 a month with every other streaming service, DIRECTV NOW gets you lots of value for a pretty generous price.
How does DIRECTV NOW compare to other streaming services?
What DIRECTV NOW has over other streaming services is channel quantity. Kind of like how the Patriots have an embarrassing amount of good players, DIRECTV NOW offers lots of channels for a great price.
If you’re in a dilemma where you want to stream Hard Knocks on HBO and get a cheap channel package to go along with it, DIRECTV NOW is a great fit.

DIRECTV NOW device compatibility
If you already have a streaming device, the chances of it working with DIRECTV NOW are very good—especially if you have an Apple TV, Chromecast, or Roku device.
#3 PlayStation Vue: HBO for free, but you gotta get an expensive channel package
What we like about it: Free HBO and SHOWTIME
Drawbacks: Expensive channel package
Who it’s perfect for: Fans looking for a robust overall package
We’ve gone through the cheapest option (HBO NOW), the middlest option (DIRECTV NOW), and now it’s time to talk about the most expensive and highest-quality option, PlayStation Vue.
It’s kind of a catch-22, but if you’re willing to pay more, you get Hard Knocks for free. Don’t worry—it’ll make sense in a second.
Pay to play
PlayStation Vue is the Pittsburgh Steelers version of streaming Hard Knocks on HBO. Yes, you have to pay $74.99 per month for the Ultra package, but once you do, HBO is included without any additional fee. That essentially gets you Hard Knocks for free, which is a big deal.
Remember, you can always change your subscription when Hard Knocks ends and drop down to a less expensive channel package. Fortunately, even PlayStation Vue’s cheapest channel package includes NFL essentials like ESPN, FOX, and NBC.
Watch Hard Knocks and what else?
If you’re going to pay that much for a streaming package, you need to know you’ll get plenty of value back.
On top of the free HBO and SHOWTIME, the Ultra package gives you 88 other channels. That includes all your local channels, as well as ESPN, ESPN U, and the NFL Network.
PlayStation Vue device compatibility
Even though it sounds like you need a PlayStation to stream Hard Knocks with PlayStation Vue, thankfully you don’t. You can use Apple TV, Chromecast, Roku, and other streaming devices.
