How much is NFL SUNDAY TICKET?

If you’re a new DIRECTV customer, we’ve got good news: you get your first season of NFL SUNDAY TICKET completely free. The bad news? After the first year of your contract, you have to pay for it.

NFL SUNDAY TICKET’s price fluctuates from year to year, so we can’t say for sure how much NFL SUNDAY TICKET will cost a year from now. It’s a good bet that it’ll be close to this year’s cost, which breaks down like so:

PackagePricePer
NFL SUNDAY TICKET$293.94season
$48.99month (6-month period)
NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX$395.94season
$65.99month (6-month period)

That’s a little steep, but we know it’s worth it for a lot of hardcore football fans. It all comes down to what works for you.

Just a heads-up: NFL SUNDAY TICKET automatically renews after your first season, so if you decide you don’t want to pay that much for extra football games each week, be sure to cancel NFL SUNDAY TICKET before the first regular-season game.

So what does NFL SUNDAY TICKET include?

Local channels (like CBS and FOX) can broadcast only games that the NFL has selected for your area. That means you could be stuck watching a Cowboys game when you really want to watch the Patriots game.

NFL SUNDAY TICKET bypasses this problem by delivering every out-of-market Sunday game. You still get whatever Sunday afternoon games broadcast on your local CBS and FOX stations—NFL SUNDAY TICKET just supplements it with all the other games going on at the same time.

In fact, when you combine NFL SUNDAY TICKET with your local channels, you’ll get Sunday Night Football on NBC, Thursday Night Football on FOX and the NFL Network, and Monday Night Football on ESPN. It basically amounts to getting all the regular-season NFL games.

NFL SUNDAY TICKET also includes the NFL SUNDAY TICKET Game Mix channel, which displays four to eight live games on one screen, including each game’s current score, possession, and field position. This channel also displays a ticker with live updates from any games not on the screen. You can even select any game on the screen to jump directly into full-screen coverage of that particular match-up.

We’d say it’s perfect for the multitaskers in your household, but that might be a bit of an understatement.

Are there any restrictions to NFL SUNDAY TICKET?

NFL SUNDAY TICKET may sound too good to be true, but there are some restrictions.

For starters, you don’t get access to any pre-season games or postseason games. Fortunately, most postseason games (including the Super Bowl) are broadcast on your local CBS, FOX, and NBC channels, so you’ll still be good if you’re looking to watch the Chargers sweep the playoffs in 2018. (Yeah, we know that’s not realistic, but a fan can dream, okay?)

You’re also subject to the occasional blackout, usually for one of two reasons:

  • Sunday afternoon games during the NFL season could be blacked out in the home team’s market if tickets to the game haven’t sold out at least 72 hours before gametime.
  • You might occasionally miss out on games shown on your local CBS, FOX, or NBC station if your local affiliate tries to play hardball in their DIRECTV contract negotiations.

What’s the difference between NFL SUNDAY TICKET and NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX?

NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX costs a little extra, but it delivers all the same perks as NFL SUNDAY TICKET, plus a few extra channels.

NFL SUNDAY TICKET MAX costs a little extra but delivers DIRECTV FANTASY ZONE and the RED ZONE CHANNEL.

Specifically, you get fantasy football–oriented commentary on the DIRECTV FANTASY ZONE™ channel and coverage of every scoring drive via the RED ZONE CHANNEL®.

What is the NFL SUNDAY TICKET app?

The NFL SUNDAY TICKET app is a nifty feature designed to maximize your football enjoyment.

If you’re watching NFL SUNDAY TICKET coverage on your TV, you can press the red button on your DIRECTV remote to launch the NFL SUNDAY TICKET app. The app gets you player tracking, scoreboards, stats, league standings, and replays of top plays and scoring drives. We can practically hear you fantasy football players drooling.

You can also download the NFL SUNDAY TICKET app on your streaming and mobile devices. That way, you can stream all your out-of-market Sunday games on the go. And don’t worry—you still get all the player tracking and other perks of the regular service app.

How do you get NFL SUNDAY TICKET?

To get NFL SUNDAY TICKET, you have to sign up for the DIRECTV CHOICE™ package or higher.

The Choice™ All Included package costs a minimum of $45 per month, assuming you enroll in AutoPay and paperless billing (be sure to check out all the fine print on DIRECTV packages and prices before signing up).

But you also have to sign up for a two-year contract, and after the first year, your package more than doubles in price. Yikes.

What about DISH?

It’s a non-starter—DIRECTV is the only TV provider that offers NFL SUNDAY TICKET (and will be until 2022).

We figured it was worth clarifying, since we’d hate to see you sign a contract with a service that can’t give you all the live games you wanted.

Can you get NFL SUNDAY TICKET without a DIRECTV package?

Yes and no.

For most people, there’s no standalone NFL SUNDAY TICKET service; you have to sign up for DIRECTV. The only exceptions are people who live in an area where DIRECTV doesn’t offer service and college students.

There’s no standalone NFL SUNDAY TICKET service—unless you’re a college student or live in an area where DIRECTV is unavailable.

NFL SUNDAY TICKET TV

If DIRECTV is available in your area, the only way to get NFL SUNDAY TICKET is to sign up for a DIRECTV package. Now, DIRECTV is a satellite provider, so it’s rare to find an area where DIRECTV can’t offer some kind of service. So most people will have to sign that two-year contract to get NFL SUNDAY TICKET.

But if you’re the rare unicorn who can’t get DIRECTV where you live, you qualify for NFLSUNDAYTICKET.TV: a streaming-only version of NFL SUNDAY TICKET that lets you watch everything online without a full-on DIRECTV package.

As of this writing, DIRECTV hasn’t revealed its NFL SUNDAY TICKET TV streaming price for 2018, so we’re assuming it’ll cost roughly the same as a regular NFL SUNDAY TICKET package.

That’s about $294 for a season or $48.99 per month for six months, FYI. Yeah, that’s still expensive. But you don’t have to pay for regular DIRECTV service or sign a multi-year contract, so we’ll call that a win.

NFL SUNDAY TICKET TV for college students

The only other exception is if you’re a college student. In that case, you qualify for NFLSUNDAYTICKET.TV U, which is basically the same as NFLSUNDAYTICKET.TV, just discounted.

Again, DIRECTV hasn’t revealed its NFL SUNDAY TICKET student pricing for 2018, but last year, it was just $99.96 for the season. So we’d bet that it’ll be comparable this year.

A word of warning to anyone looking to game the system—to get the NFLSUNDAYTICKET.TV U package, you have to provide your name, birthdate, and college name. The site confirms your student record with the college you’ve listed, so it’s literally impossible to get the package without enrolling in school. Worth the $3,000+ tuition? Probably not.

What about DIRECTV NOW?

We’re so glad you asked.

In the past, NFL SUNDAY TICKET hasn’t been available via the DIRECTV NOW streaming service. But we have a hard time accepting “no” for an answer—so we did a little digging.

The scuttlebutt about town is that DIRECTV NOW is currently working to offer NFL SUNDAY TICKET to its subscribers by the end of August 2018.

That’s great news for any football fans who also happen to be cord-cutters.

Right now, we don’t have any specifics about how much it’ll cost DIRECTV NOW customers, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more.
