Lionsgate is diving into the already crowded streaming world head-on. Last week, the film and television giant announced the launch of the first Spanish-language American streaming service, Pantaya. Just as Pantaya rolls out, Lionsgate is today launching another niche streaming site, this time aimed at the comedy market. The service is called Laugh Out Loud Network and is the brainchild of comedian and actor Kevin Hart.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer says that given Kevin Hart’s proven track record of producing top-notch comedy, the Laugh Out Loud Network should be a natural extension of Hart’s and Lionsgate’s brands:
Kevin Hart is an extraordinary global talent, and we’re proud to continue expanding our multi-faceted relationship into exciting new opportunities. He is not only one of the biggest stars in the world but a great entrepreneur and an incredible brand. Together, we’re building Laugh Out Loud into a compelling, content-rich value proposition for his millions of current fans — as well as new audiences worldwide.
Hart already has one original series in the works to premiere on Laugh Out Loud, called Kevin Hart: Lyft Legend. In the series, which already has a massive Facebook following, Hart operates a Lyft ride-sharing taxi while assuming the identity of Donald Mac, a talkative driver who often shares way too much about his personal life. Other original launch titles include Black Geo, a parody documentary series which explores the origins of black culture through satirical sketch comedy; Campus Law, a college comedy; and the sitcom Dead House, in which a human cast member joins a reality show where zombies must find a way to live and work together under one roof. Laugh Out Loud will also include all seven seasons of legendary stand-up series Def Comedy Jam which include performances by some of the biggest names in comedy.
The Laugh Out Loud Network launches today, August 3rd. The service has a free option which features ads, and a $2.99 a month subscription which is ad-free.
