Internet access is something that many take for granted; like the water that comes out of our sink, and the heat that comes out of our furnace. But the reality is that only around 40% of the worlds population has internet access, and even in developed countries like here in the US, millions of families cannot afford to have internet service in their homes. Luckily, there’s a new program that aims to change that, called Comcast Internet Essentials.
Basically, Internet Essentials is a very affordable internet subscription service that allows families who qualify for certain government assistance programs to also obtain Comcast low income internet for around $10 per month. When their average price is $40-$50+ per month, it’s easy to see how many folks just can’t afford the standard Comcast rates. Let’s explore Comcast Essentials to learn more about what this program offers.
Comcast Internet Essentials: What Is It?
Comcast Internet Essentials is low-income internet service that offers in-home internet access and WiFi for just $9.95 per month. It aims to provide low-income families and individuals with the conveniences and advantages that internet supplies, without the high cost of traditional services. The program is operated in a partnership between Comcast and various governmental agencies, including the Housing and Urban Development department. There are some Comcast Internet Essentials eligibility requirements, as discussed below.

Comcast Internet Essentials Trials for Seniors & Students
Currently, this program primarily serves HUD housing assistance recipients and NSLP free lunch assistance recipients. With that said, Comcast has plans to expand the program to also help low-income seniors and community college students. These two programs are currently in a trial phase, so availability is limited – but it’s certainly nice to see Comcast expanding on the program.
