How Do FOX Sports Regional Channels Work?

In addition to FOX, FS1 and FS2, which are all broadcast nationally, there are tons of regional FOX Sports channels, otherwise known as FOX Sports local channels. As you can imagine, these channels are geographically targeted to give fans access to games from local teams.
